For the first time since 2012, Radford University is the No. 1 seed in the Big South Softball Championship following the conclusion of the conference season this afternoon. The Highlanders clinched their first outright Big South regular-season championship since 2012 and fifth overall and are seeking their first Big South Tournament title since back-to-back crowns in 2009 and 2010. The top five teams in the final standings qualified for the league’s postseason championship, which will be contested May 7-10 at the PC Softball Complex on the campus of Presbyterian College in Clinton, S.C.
Radford won the regular-season championship after finishing 14-4 in league play — its most Big South victories since winning 14 in 2014, and doubling last year’s total of seven. Longwood is the No. 2 seed for the second-straight year after finishing second in the standings at 11-7. Defending Tournament Champion USC Upstate tied with Winthrop, last year’s Tournament Runner-Up, third at 10-8, and the Spartans received the No. 3 seed based on its 2-1 season series win over the Eagles. Charleston Southern clinched the fifth and final seed with its 9-9 conference finish.
The 2025 Softball Championship begins Wednesday, May 7, with No. 4 Winthrop vs. No. 5 Charleston Southern at 5:00pm, continues with three games each on Thursday and Friday, May 8-9, and concludes Saturday, May 10 with two potential Championship contests starting at 12 p.m. Every game will be broadcast on ESPN+ as well as on various Nexstar television affiliates in the conference’s footprint. The Big South’s Tournament champion receives an automatic bid to the NCAA Softball Regionals. The Conference Championship schedule is below and is subject to change due to weather.
