Members of the Christiansburg Police Department take part this past week in a special ceremony to remember Officer Terry Griffith, who was shot and killed during a shoplifting call in 1994. Police officer Terry L. Griffith thought a service call to a Christiansburg business on Sept. 18, 1994, would just be a simple call. Samuel Jerome Patterson, 34, of West Virginia was accused of shoplifting a carton of cigarettes from Hill’s Department Store.
