RADFORD – Rory Grant, a seventh grader from William Byrd Middle School in Vinton, won the Radford University regional spelling bee on Saturday and will advance to the 2025 Scripps National Spelling Bee.
Grant bested 26 competitors from regional public school districts and private schools, winning in 13 rounds. Grant will compete at Bee Week 2025 near Washington, D.C. May 27-29.
Audrey Lee of Andrew Lewis Middle School in Salem, who won the Radford regional bee last year and advanced to the quarterfinals of the Scripps National Spelling Bee, finished in the top four.
The regional bee was held on the Artis Center Main Stage on the main campus of Radford University.
