Deadline to register for Holiday Trees at the Blacksburg Museum
Downtown Blacksburg, Inc. (DBI) is hosting a holiday wonderland in the Blacksburg Museum. All are invited to decorate a tree to showcase their business or organization at no cost. Community will vote for their favorite tree. Participant with the winning tree will receive special promotions on social media. Participants must set up/furnish their tree between Nov. 20 – 26. Trees will officially go on display Nov. 29 through Jan. 3. Keep designs family-friendly and representative of your organization and the holiday season. Congressman Griffith staff hours
Congressman Griffith’s Ninth District staff will be available at the Radford Recreation Building, 200 George St., Radford, 12:30- 2 p.m. In the event of inclement weather (heavy snow, sleet, icy rain, etc.), traveling office hours may be rescheduled to avoid putting constituents at risk. If the city’s schools are closed, then its office hours will be closed as well. Glencoe art exhibit
“Imagination, Reality, and Memories,” featuring the works of artist Yvonne Alderman, will be on display at the Glencoe Mansion Nov. 6 through Jan. 18, 2026. There will be an opening reception, Nov. 13, 5:30 – 7 p.m. The reception is open to all, is family friendly, and free to attend. Glencoe Mansion, located at 600 Unruh St., Radford, is open Wednesdays through Saturdays, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sundays 1 – 4 p.m. There is no admission charge.

History of the Radford Arsenal: 1938-1946
Join Warm Hearth Village for a fascinating look back at the early history of the Radford Army Ammunition Plant, originally known as the Radford Ordnance Works. Learn How this 6901-acre facility – complete with its own rail system – was built in record time during WWII, sparking a housing boom in Radford, Fairlawn, and beyond, to accommodate 20,000 workers. Both men and women labored in ammunition production to support U.S. forces in WWII, the Korean Conflict, the Vietnam War, and beyond. The event is at 11 a.m. at The Village Center, 2387 Warm Hearth Dr., Blacksburg.
Share your feedback on fire and rescue services
Montgomery County has partnered with Mission CIT, LLC to complete a comprehensive study of the county’s Fire and Rescue/EMS system, including services provided in the towns of Blacksburg and Christiansburg and by the Virginia Tech Rescue Squad. Study will assess the current volunteer-career model and develop strategic recommendations for the future, strengthening the volunteer system and enhancing how the county and towns work together to provide high-quality emergency services. Thanksgiving during the American Revolution
Historic Smithfield will host a special living-history event celebrating how early Americans marked Thanksgiving during the Revolutionary War era, 10 a.m. – 3 p.m., Historic Smithfield, 1000 Merry Oak Way, Blacksburg. Visitors can explore 18th-century life through interactive demonstrations, a colonial militia encampment, traditional music, and artisan vendors. A highlight of this year’s event is the arrival of the VA250 Mobile Museum, part of Virginia’s statewide initiative to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the United States. This traveling exhibit showcases Virginia’s pivotal role in the American Revolution and offers an immersive way for families to connect with our shared heritage.
Historic Smithfield Pie Baking Contest
As part of the day’s festivities, Historic Smithfield will also host its annual Pie Baking Contest, inviting community members to craft pies inspired by 18th-century recipes. The contest includes Adult and Youth divisions, with judging based on historical authenticity, flavor, and presentation. Winners will be announced during the event, followed by public tasting. Pie drop-off 10- 11 a.m.; judging at 11 a.m. These activities celebrate community, creativity, and Virginia’s history—offering a wonderful opportunity for families and history enthusiasts to come together as part of the ongoing VA250 Commemoration.

The theme for this year is “Celebrating God’s Unfailing Love” Lamentations 3:22-23 – “Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for His compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness.”

Public Input Meeting for Airport Master Plan Update
The Virginia Tech / Montgomery Regional Airport Authority, in partnership with transportation consulting firm, Parrish and Partners LLC, will hold a public input meeting, 6-8 p.m., at the BCB Airport Terminal, 1601 Research Center Dr. The meeting will provide information on the progress of an ongoing Airport Master Plan Update and will give participants an opportunity for citizen input. Montgomery County Board of Supervisors meeting
Public meetings are normally held the second and fourth Monday of each month at the Montgomery County Government Center, 755 Roanoke St. in Christiansburg. Closed sessions begin at 6 p.m. if needed. Open sessions begin at 7:15 p.m. Citizens are invited to attend and allowed to speak at each meeting. All regular meetings of the Board of Supervisors are rebroadcast on Montgomery County Comcast and Shentel Channels 190 daily.

Join the Christiansburg High School Music Department for our annual Breakfast with Santa, 8 a.m. – noon in the CHS cafeteria. Tickets are $6 for children 12 and under, and $8 for children ages 13-99 (cash and Venmo accepted) Enjoy a yummy pancake breakfast, holiday fun and games, and music. Bring a camera for a photo op with Santa and one of our elves will happily assist. This year the CHS Music Department is excited to collect Toys for Tots. Holiday Ukelele Jam with Ash Devine
At The Alexander Black House, 204 Draper Rd. SW, Blacksburg, 2 – 4 p.m. Suggested donation of $10-$20 per person but no one will be turned away. Join us for music, community, and merriment at the second Annual Uke-Xmas Uke-led string jam and sing along. For this session we will sing traditional December holiday songs, featuring classic carols, but not limited to. Some other themes may be solstice, peace and justice, winter, friendship and more. Bring your uke, bring a song, or other stringed instrument, and play along or just come to listen or to sing along. Hot cocoa and light refreshments will be provided.
