Wednesday, June 4:

  • Blacksburg Farmers Market – At Market Square Park, 100 Draper Rd SW, Blacksburg; 2 – 6 p.m. (New hours for April). The Blacksburg Farmers Market is a local, family-friendly gathering place in downtown Blacksburg featuring farmers of locally grown produce and meats, alongside artisans of baked goods and handmade crafts.   • Market Square Jam – This week: Happy Hollow String Band. Blacksburg’s Market Square Jam is an official Crooked Road-affiliated venue that provides fun and entertainment on Wednesday evenings, June through September. The Jam takes place at Market Square Park, 7-9 p.m. Catering to traditional Old-Time music, the Market Square Jam brings musicians together to pick a tune, enjoy fun times with friends and family, and take in all that downtown Blacksburg has to offer.

Thursday, June 5:

  • Forage Foray and Wild Tasting with Em Shawish – Meet at the Radford Public Library prior to 6 p.m.. Learn what wild foods are currently growing and how to make the best use of them in preparing a meal. Em Shawish is the creator of ‘For the Love of Foraging: A Seasonal Guide to Wild Food and Medicine in Southwest Virginia. Join us for an evening of foraging and tasting. Copies of her zine will be available for purchase. To register, email Elizabeth.Sensabaugh@radfordva.gov. Please bring your own plate/cup/utensils for the foraged food sampling. 6 p.m.- Wildwood Walk, 6:45 p.m. – Presentation and 7:15 p.m. – Sampling.
  • 16 Squares Walking Tour – Meet at The Alexander Black House every other Thursday at noon to explore the historic streets within the original 16 Squares of Blacksburg and learn the rich history and stories behind many of the buildings and landmarks throughout town that may go unnoticed. You may also schedule this tour by appointment if Thursdays don’t work for your group. As an add-on to this tour, you may also request a tour of historic St. Luke & Odd Fellows Hall. Free of Charge.   • Art Exhibit – 2025 New River Art Juried Biennial: Presented by the Blacksburg Regional Art Association, June 5 – Aug. 23. Opening reception with Juror Michael Rooks: Thursday June 5, 5-7 p.m., Moss Arts Center; all galleries.
  • American Legion meeting – The American Legion, Harvey Howe Carper Post 30 will meet at 5 6 p.m. at the VFW Post Home, 102 Watts St. in Radford. For further information, please call 540-250-2283 or 540-239-9864.
  • Christiansburg Farmers Market – The Christiansburg Farmers Market is located in the Recreation Center parking lot, 1600 N. Franklin St. The market features local farmers and vendors each Thursday. Seasonal produce, plants, fresh baked goods, crafts, fresh flowers, handmade jewelry and more. Items for purchase vary week-to-week. Check Facebook for details about weekly themes, prizes, vendors, and live music. The market will run now through Oct. 30, 3-7 p.m.

Friday, June 6:

  • Blacksburg Summer Arts Festival concert – Solacoustix, 6 – 7:30 p.m., Henderson Lawn. Free. In the event of inclement weather, this event will be canceled.

Saturday, June 7:

  • Gospel Sing – Join the Blacksburg Museum & Cultural Foundation, 204 Draper Rd SW, for the 9th annual Gospel Sing, part of the New Town Festival Series, 12- 5 p.m. The afternoon will be filled with dancing, singing and fellowship as local groups and soloists perform their favorite current and old-time gospel favorites. Kirk’s Famous Smoked BBQ will join us again this year with plenty of food for sale. This is a free event, though donations are encouraged, and many thanks to our Supporting Sponsor, Stateson Homes.
  • Bears! with Master Naturalist Judy McCord – Come out to the Radford Public Library to learn about black bears and become bear-wise, 1 – 2 p.m. Judy will teach participants about ways to keep bears from coming to your yard, what to do if you see a bear, and more.

  • Radford Farmers Market – At 600 Unruh Drive, next to Glencoe Mansion, 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. More than 40 vendors, food trucks, and more.

Monday, June 9:

  • Montgomery County Board of Supervisors meeting – Public meetings are normally held the second and fourth Monday of each month at the Montgomery County Government Center, 755 Roanoke St. in Christiansburg. Closed sessions begin at 6 p.m. if needed. Open sessions begin at 7:15 p.m. Citizens are invited to attend and allowed to speak at each meeting. All regular meetings of the Board of Supervisors are rebroadcast on Montgomery County Comcast and Shentel Channels 190 daily.

Tuesday, June 10:

  • Blacksburg Town Council meeting – The council meets in regular session the second and fourth Tuesdays of each month at 6:30 p.m. in the Roger E. Hedgepeth Chambers of the Blacksburg Municipal Building, 300 S. Main St. These meetings are open to the public and televised live on WTOB Channel 2.
  • Christiansburg Town Council meeting – Regular town council meetings are held on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month beginning at 7 p.m. in the Council Chambers of Town Hall (100 E. Main St.). The public is welcome and encouraged to attend, with a citizen hearing time reserved at each meeting for residents to bring any matter they desire before the entire council. The meeting will be live streamed to the Town’s YouTube page at www.christiansburg.org/YouTube. Please copy and paste the URL into your browser and be sure to select Live videos to view. Agendas and minutes can be viewed at www.christiansburg.org/agendasandminutes.

Saturday, June 14:

  • Rockin’ Main Street – Grab your friends and head to downtown Christiansburg-Rockin’ Main Street is back with live performances by two local favorites. Country music singer/songwriter, Drew Pace takes the stage at 5 p.m. Then at 7 p.m., Miller Holler will perform a blend of country, rock and “good-time” music. Beer, wine, and food trucks will be available at the event. Please bring your IDs if you plan to purchase beer or wine. Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs to sit and watch the live music. This event is rain or shine.
  • Fish Fry – Mount Tabor Ruritan Club will hold its June Fish Fry,5 to 7 p.m. at Slusser’s Chapel Picnic Shelter, 1543 Mount Tabor Rd, Blacksburg. Serving fish, fries and slaw; homemade desserts; and beverages. Adults- $12, children under 12- $6, (under 3)- free, carry-outs- $12. This month, the Blacksburg Community Band will be playing. Tuesday, June 17:

  • Radford City Council meeting – The Radford City Council will hold its regularly scheduled meeting at 7 p.m. in council chambers at the Radford Municipal Building, 10 Robertson St., Radford. Citizens are invited to attend and allowed to speak at each meeting. See the agenda at www.radfordva.gov.

Thursday, June 19:

  • Sons of Confederate Veterans meeting – The Sons of Confederate Veterans, Stuart Horse Artillery Camp 1784 will meet at 7 p.m. at Aly’s Family Italian Restaurant, 3204 Riner Rd. Members of the United Daughters of the Confederacy (UDC) are also invited to attend. Sunday, June 22:

  • Blacksburg Vintage Market – Shop at the Blacksburg Vintage Market on the second and fourth Sundays of every month April – November, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. for the best selection of vintage vinyl, clothing, jewelry, books, housewares, oddities, and who knows what else. Market is located in downtown Blacksburg at the corner of Roanoke Street and Draper Avenue, in Market Square park, under the Farmer’s market structure.

On-going:

  • Radford Fiddle and Banjo Jam at Bee & Butter – Bee & Butter restaurant, in the Highlander Hotel on Tyler Ave., is now open on Monday nights during the Radford Fiddle and Banjo Jam. The jam is held at the restaurant 6- 9 p.m. each Monday evening.
  • Christiansburg Façade Grant application period – The Town of Christiansburg is now accepting applications for the 2025 Façade Grant to apply for up to $5,000 in matching grants. This program first started in 2019, completing its first round in 2020, and was designed to improve the streetscape and strengthen relationships with stakeholders in downtown Christiansburg and Cambria. Applications are open through June 30, 2025. Visit christianburg.org for more information on how to apply.
  • Apply to serve on a Blacksburg volunteer board or committee – Annually, the town council considers citizen appointments to various boards, commissions, and committees. Interested citizens should visit www.blacksburg.gov/boardsandcommittees to complete the Statement of Interest application and to learn more. Statement of Interest applications are reviewed as openings arise.
