Sensei Tom Altizer poses with his advanced karate class at the new school.

Celebrating Tora Martial Arts Academy’s new studio space on Main Street, the Radford Chamber of Commerce is hosting a ribbon-cutting ceremony 12-1 p.m. Thursday at the studio (1081 E. Main Street). The academy moved to its new location earlier in the year.

“I had been teaching at the local Rec. Center for years, and this move to having my own permanent space has allowed me to expand my adult program and add several new classes during the week,” said Tom Altizer, owner and head instructor.

The ribbon cutting will let visitors see the new space and learn more about self-defense.

“Teaching self-defense is my passion, and this new space will allow me to better spread that knowledge to the members of my community,” Altizer said.
