The Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) of Montgomery County and Radford and members of Volunteer Pulaski participated in the 10th annual Supplies for Seniors program in conjunction with the Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service.

The focus of the project is to help seniors and veterans stretch their limited income and provide basic necessities as they struggle with increased food, heating and medical expenses.

The program also provides another support system to help them maintain their dignity and independence while remaining in their home environment.

The event begins with bagging basic household supplies and personal care items for 150 homebound seniors and veterans in Montgomery County, Floyd County, Giles County and the City of Radford.

Volunteers and local law enforcement officers deliver the bags to each home. Donations and items are purchased using funds raised by the group’s 2017 Pancake Breakfast.

The event is held in conjunction with the Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service initiative.

Sponsors of this program include: RSVP Volunteers of Montgomery County and Radford, Wade’s Supermarket in Christiansburg, Christiansburg Recreation Center, Community Foundation of the New River Valley, 2017 RSVP Pancake Breakfast contributions, Blacksburg Newcomers Club, Carilion NRV Medical Center, Chi Delta Alpha Sorority at Virginia Tech, Warm Hearth Village, Woodmen Life Virginia Chapter 14 and the Wal-Mart in Christiansburg.

Those interested in becoming a sponsor of this worthwhile program, please contact RSVP at 382-5775 or hayesaw@montgomerycountyva.gov.
