Patricia “Patsy” Foster Steiss passed away peacefully at her home with her husband by her side on April 28, 2023, at the age of 85.
She was born to Charles and Hazel McClintock on July 2, 1937, and grew up in Turtle Creek, Penn., a small suburban town just outside of Pittsburgh. She graduated from Turtle Creek High School in the top 10 of her class in 1955 and continued her education at Bucknell University. There she would meet her future husband, Alan Steiss.
After graduating from College with a Degree in Commerce and Finance, she and Alan married on June 13, 1959. Together they had three children: Carol Jean, Darren, and Todd. Patsy first moved to Blacksburg in 1967, where her husband, Alan began his career at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (Virginia Tech). They relocated to Ann Arbor, Mich. in 1988 and then returned to Blacksburg in 1999 and remained in the area until her passing.
Patsy enjoyed singing, cooking, playing bridge, knitting, reading mystery novels, and traveling. She was involved in many social activities. She was a member of the Blacksburg Master Chorale, Sweet Adeline, bridge clubs, Virginia Tech Women’s Club, Blacksburg Women’s Club, volunteer at the Montgomery Regional Hospital (now Lewis Gale), bowling league, and worked in several women’s retail clothing stores.
She was lovingly known as “Moma Pat” to her grandchildren, whom she adored. (Cory, Kaitlyn, Robert, and Ryan). Her favorite time was the annual family beach trip and Thanksgiving. But her greatest love was her husband of over 60 years. Patricia is survived by her loving husband Alan; daughter, Carol Whaley (Wes); sons, Darren (Wendy), and Todd (Sandy); four grandchildren, Cory, Kaitlyn, Robert, and Ryan; first great grandchild due in June; and a niece, Deborah. The family would like to thank the staff of Good Samaritan Hospice for their gentle, empathetic care.
