The quarterback position on the football field is the most important one in the game, and many onlookers are starting to scratch their head on what could be happening at Virginia Tech.
Coaches don’t seem to be worried, but the question is whether they should be after this past week’s Spring Game.
The man who took Drones QB1 spot late last season including in a bowl game, William “Pop” Watson was not dressed. Team officials say he was suffering from a soft tissue injury.
Davi Belfort, who is a four-star recruit from Miami, finished 7-11 with 51 yards and one touchdown. But was it enough to move him into an even more important role in the next few months.
Belfort and a group of freshmen signal callers, A.J. Brand, and Kelden Ryan, were given the opportunity to grab the reins on Saturday in front of a small crowd.
Belfort sat out last season as he was recovering from an injury.
It is injuries that haunted Drones and still do. For the offense to find any success this season, the team needs a consistent signal caller who will be there for plenty practice and days action.
Two inexperienced freshmen QB’s will have to grow up quickly. The question is whether the Hokies will have a person under center that can learn a new playbook and lead the team down the field.
For now, no one knows who that might be.
