Sheriff’s Department encourages participation in Good Morning Radford program

RADFORD – Good Morning Radford is a voluntary program that Radford Sheriff Mark Armentrout was inspired to create by his grandmother while he was campaigning.

His grandmother was very special to him, and he wanted to honor her while helping the community at the same time.  After he was elected in 2004, this program was implemented to help with the outreach of the growing senior demographics here in Radford.

Good Morning Radford focuses on seniors located in Radford who either live alone or have little to no home health professional services.  Every day, including holidays, a call will be expected from a Radford City Sheriff’s Office employee between 9 – 10 a.m.  If the senior cannot be reached after 30 minutes of the original call, a deputy will be dispatched to check on them.  While calls may not be lengthy, it may be a bright spot to the senior’s day and ensures that there is no distress nor is medical attention needed. Participation ensures that someone will be contacting them every day at a certain time. If they do not answer, a deputy will be coming by their house to check on them.

The future goal of the Good Morning Radford Program is to continue growing the program to reach more Radford Seniors while inspiring other agencies to incorporate a program that is much like ours.

If interested in participating in the Good Morning Radford Program, please call the Radford City Sheriff’s Office at (540)731-5501.
