Norma Jean Dunn, 84, of Elliston, went home to Heaven on Nov. 27, 2022.
Norma enjoyed many hobbies from buying and refinishing antiques to showing off her green thumb with her indoor and outdoor plants. She loved elderly people and was a caregiver to people in need in her community. She loved God and her church, Midway Baptist Church where she served as Sunday School Secretary/Treasurer.
Norma and CJ enjoyed making trips to North Carolina to visit their daughter and son-in-law, and she enjoyed yearly visits to the beach and to the Blue Ridge Parkway. Visits later increased to North Carolina to visit their only grandchild, but they would always come back to the mountains she called home.
Norma was preceded in death by her parents, Elmo F. Compton and Lillie M. Compton; and a brother, Alvah H. Compton.
She is survived by her husband, Cornelius John “CJ/Neely” Dunn; a daughter, Rhonda Dunn Crafton and her husband, Don Richard Crafton, Jr.; a grandson, Luke Aidan Crafton; a sister, Ramona Compton Dunn; and many nieces and nephews.
The family received friends on Wednesday, Nov. 30, at Horne Funeral Home. Funeral services were held Thursday, Dec. 1, at the Horne Chapel with Danny Collins officiating along with other special speakers. Interment followed in North Fork Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Parkinson’s Foundation. Arrangements with Horne Funeral Home and Crematory.
