Lynn Carnahan Carey Lipsey, 92, died on Nov. 24, 2022.  She was born and grew up in New Orleans, La. where she graduated from the Louise S. McGehee School. She attended Mary Baldwin College, Southwestern at Memphis (now Rhodes College) and graduated from Newcomb College (now Tulane University).  She was married to John Crawford Lipsey, M.D. who pre-deceased her in 2012.

She is survived by her children Crawford Carnahan Lipsey (Nancy) of Hebron, Ohio; Lisa Hall Lipsey of Blacksburg; and John Johnson Lipsey II (Rosabella); and five grandchildren Jessica Lipsey Sapp (Jordan) of Spring Hill, Tennessee; Elizabeth Lipsey Diyanni (Jason) of Columbus, Ohio; Catherine Lipsey Osburn (Eric) of Hebron, Ohio; Ian M. Lipsey of Blacksburg, Bryn L. Distler of Richmond.  She is also survived by seven great grandchildren: Nora, Layna, Rowan, and Rayne Sapp; Solomon, Mariam, and Gideon Diyanni.

She and John moved to Blacksburg in 1976 after living in Pensacola, Fla. since 1961, keeping a strong affection for both hometowns.  She was an avid gardener and enjoyed visiting gardens in the area and around the world.  She served as a docent at William Preston’s Smithfield Historic house and volunteer at the Blacksburg Interfaith Food Pantry for many years.  She was fond of tennis with her regular group well into her eighties.  She finished a crossword a day for years.

Memorial service will be held at Blacksburg Presbyterian Church at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 1, 2022. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to her favorite charities, Presbyterian Disaster Assistance, American Red Cross, and Doctors Without Borders.
