Blacksburg is the River Ridge District champion for 2026.
The Bruins won the season-long race by 22 strokes over its nearest competitor yesterday at Hunting Hills Country Club. Seth Alba, Isabella Geng and Jack Skinner all earned first-team All-District honors, and Jack Herbert earned second-team honors. The Bruins went to the sub-regional tournament at Hidden Valley Country Club on Sept. 29 where they will compete for a spot in the 4D region tournament in Winchester on Oct. 6.
Auburn wins again
Auburn High School traveled to the Pete Dye River Course this past week for an 18-hole match against Radford and Pulaski County and came away with the win, posting a team score of 291. Gaston Wimmer and Liam Smith both fired 73s, tying Radford’s Hunter Crist for the low round of the day.
East Mont wins Pioneer
Eastern Montgomery High School shot a combined 375 to win this past week’s Pioneer District Crown. Grayden Lawson shot a 92 to place third individually. As a team, Eastern Montgomery outdistanced second place Bath County who shot a team score of 384.
Albert at Auburn
The Auburn University men’s golf team will enter the 2026-27 season ranked No. 3 in two preseason polls – Golfweek and by Golf Channel’s Brentley Romine. In addition, two Tigers were placed on Golf Channel’s preseason All-America list.
The team includes former Blacksburg High golfer, Jake Albert, who made a seamless transition to the college game as one of three Auburn players to start in all 14 team events of the season. He averaged 70.67 shots per round with 28 of 43 rounds coming at par or better and earned three top fives and seven top 20s.
Albert was named SEC Freshman of the Year, Second Team All-SEC and to the SEC’s All-Freshman Team as well as PING All-Region and an Honorable Mention All-American by both PING and Golfweek.
