The Floyd Center for the Arts invites visual media artists within 150 miles of Floyd to submit artwork for exhibition in the New River Art Biennial 2017.

This is the 14th New River Art Biennial exhibition. This exhibit rotates every two years between this Floyd Center for the Arts, the Fine Arts Center for the New River Valley (FACNRV) in Pulaski and the Blacksburg Regional Art Association. Top cash prize for this exhibition is $500, and other cash prizes and honorable mentions will be awarded. Juror Amy Shawley will be selecting artwork for the show.

Shawley is a Virginia-based visual artist whose painting and illustration is inspired by the natural world.  Her work incorporates fauna, flora, landscapes, and textures she has encountered during her travels and everyday life.  After earning her Art History degree, developing her love of paint, and exhibiting her work in New York and LA, Amy was selected and trained in 2008 by Golden Artist Colors for their Working Artist Program.  She taught and lectured in their southern California territory for six years then relocated back east to offer painting lectures in Virginia, Maryland, and Delaware.

Shawley teaches art workshops nationally, offers online education, and published her first book in 2015, Acrylic Texture Techniques: Rock, Metal and Wood.

The Biennial exhibition is open to all artists 18 years of age or older that live within 150 miles of Floyd. Work must be original and executed within the past two years. Exhibit dates are June 9 to Aug. 5. For more information go to: www.floydartcenter.org/new-river-art-2017-biennial-juried-exhibition/

The submission deadline is April 25. Artists needing help with the online submission process can contact the Floyd Center for the Arts about arranging time for assistance in the Center’s computer and photography lab.
