RAAP holding annual emergency preparedness exercise April 21-22

The Radford Army Ammunition Plant will hold its annual emergency preparedness exercise on Friday and Saturday. The exercise will last from 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. on Friday and 7 a.m. – 5 p.m. on Saturday.

Please be advised that on Saturday there will be an increase in emergency vehicles entering the plant from Route 114. Response personnel from surrounding communities will be practicing lifesaving skills.

Southwest Virginia Outdoor Expo Saturday at Bisset Park

The Expo is a free event with live music, beer, raffle tickets, giveaways and more. The event will be held in Radford’s Bisset Park on the bank of the New River from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m Saturday.

This is the third annual event which is the only one of its kind in Southwest Virginia and raises awareness of the diverse outdoor recreation opportunities that are abundant across the region. The 2015 event was a huge success with over 1,700 visitors and 79 vendors from all 19 counties of Southwest Virginia.

Spend the day learning about new destinations to hike, bike, kayak, rock climb, or try something new with the many other activities the region provides. Local businesses, clubs, outdoor organizations, and others will be on hand to share information to help get you out on your next outdoor adventure.

Sparky’s Run Dog Park closed April 24-May 22

Sparky’s Run Dog Park will be closed beginning April 24 through May 22 for repairs. Sparky’s Run has been heavily used by citizens and their pets since it opened in repairs, including a concrete pad at the entrance, dirt brought in to fill in the holes and reseeding of the entire park, will all be done during the month the park is closed. Upon completion, Sparky’s run will be ready for use by its patrons. 

Women’s Weekend at First Baptist Church April 29-May 1

The First Baptist Church at 555 West Rock Road in Radford is hosting a Women’s Weekend April 29, April 30 and May 1. The theme of the weekend is “God is able: unpack the goodness.” On April 29, a workshop will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. On April 30, there will be a worship service at 11 a.m. On May 1, there will be a brown bag dinner and a movie at 6 p.m.
