In loving memory of Dennis J. Duven, born Nov. 5, 1940 in Orange City, Iowa. He passed away in his home in Blacksburg on April 16, 2026.
Dennis attended Northwestern College for two years before transferring to Iowa State University where he received his Ph.D. in electrical engineering in 1971. He started working for John Hopkins Applied Physics Lab in 1973 as a member of the Space Systems Applications Group. He worked on projects such as SATRACK, GPS, and the NASA TIMED mission.
On June 27, 1964 he married the love of his life, Rose Ellen Hanna. Dennis and Rose had six children, two boys and four girls, one girl preceded him in death as a preemie baby. They lived a fulfilling life in their Silver Spring, Maryland neighborhood until he retired. They moved to Warm Hearth Retirement Community in Blacksburg in 2021. After moving to Blacksburg, he continued his lifelong passion of music by joining the Blacksburg Community Band playing his trombone and the Blacksburg Master Chorale singing bass.
Memorial service was held Saturday April 18, 2026 at his church, Redeemer Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church, 560 Cinnabar Rd., Christiansburg. Visitation will be at 4 p.m., with services following at 5 p.m.
