RADFORD – Each year, the City of Radford is awarded money by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) through the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Program to help low-to-moderate income residents.

The city is currently seeking public comment on the proposed draft of the 2023 Annual Action Plan for Radford’s CDBG program.

CDBG activities benefit low and moderate- income people by making improvements throughout the City, taking into consideration the public input received. Funding for the 2023 fiscal year will be $255,683 for the CDBG program, of which $51,000 has been rolled from prior year allocations.

The proposed Housing and Community Development goals for 2023 are to support affordable housing, prevent and end homelessness, and support non-homeless special needs.

Proposed use of 2023 CDBG funds include:

Emergency Home Repair – $40,000

East Main Redevelopment – $ 65,000

Beautification – $34,083

Façade Program – $10,000

Public Work Fence – $35,000

New River Community Action – $7,900

Women’s Resource Center of the NRV – $7,900

Radford-Fairlawn Daily Bread – $7,900

Bobcat Back Pack Program – $4,000

August Kids – $3,000

Program Administration – $40,900

CDBG TOTAL – $255,683

The draft 2023 Annual Action Plan can be reviewed on the City’s website at https://www.radfordva.gov/.

Radford City Community Development office is soliciting comments on the City’s housing and community development needs now through Sept. 5, 2023.

A public comment meeting will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 5, 2023 at noon in the City Council Chambers, at 10 Robertson St., Radford.
