RADFORD – Each year, the City of Radford is awarded money by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) through the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Program to help low-to-moderate income residents.
The city is currently seeking public comment on the proposed draft of the 2023 Annual Action Plan for Radford’s CDBG program.
CDBG activities benefit low and moderate- income people by making improvements throughout the City, taking into consideration the public input received. Funding for the 2023 fiscal year will be $255,683 for the CDBG program, of which $51,000 has been rolled from prior year allocations.
The proposed Housing and Community Development goals for 2023 are to support affordable housing, prevent and end homelessness, and support non-homeless special needs.
Proposed use of 2023 CDBG funds include:
Emergency Home Repair – $40,000
East Main Redevelopment – $ 65,000
Beautification – $34,083
Façade Program – $10,000
Public Work Fence – $35,000
New River Community Action – $7,900
Women’s Resource Center of the NRV – $7,900
Radford-Fairlawn Daily Bread – $7,900
Bobcat Back Pack Program – $4,000
August Kids – $3,000
Program Administration – $40,900
CDBG TOTAL – $255,683

Radford City Community Development office is soliciting comments on the City’s housing and community development needs now through Sept. 5, 2023.
A public comment meeting will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 5, 2023 at noon in the City Council Chambers, at 10 Robertson St., Radford.
