Bodell, Donald Nelson

Donald Nelson Bodell, 91, of Blacksburg died, Wednesday, Nov.8, 2017, at Lewis Gale Hospital-Montgomery. Born in Blacksburg, Virginia on Feb. 4, 1926 to the late Charles and Beulah Hubbard Bodell.


He is preceded in death by his wife Dorothy Lee Heavener Bodell; his brother, Dr. Charles Bodell, Jr.; sister-in-law, Jean Bodell; brother-in-law, Thomas E. Heavener. He served in the US Navy during World War II and as a Mason for 65 years. He retired from Virginia Tech in 1989 as a machinist, and was also a member of Blacksburg Christian Church.

He is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law, Steve and Pat Bodell of Daleville, Arthur Bodell, of Blacksburg, Hugh and Valerie Bodell of Johnson City, TN; grandchild, Katherine (Josh) Stowers, of Roanoke; great-grandchild, Luke Stowers; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, David and Helen Heavener of Blacksburg; sisters-in-law and brother-in-law, Nan Heavener of Blacksburg, Susie (Paul) Siburt of Blacksburg; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted today, Nov. 11, 2017 at 11 a.m. in the Blacksburg Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) with the Rev. Gary McCoy officiating. Interment will follow in the Westview Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 10-11 a.m. today at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Blacksburg Christian Church Disciples of Christ Building Fund, 240 Watson Ave, Blacksburg, VA 24060.
