Peggy Joyce Beckner, 86, passed away Tuesday, Mar. 17, 2026, at her home in Christiansburg, surrounded by her family. Born Sept. 29, 1939, she was born in Bluefield, W.Va., the daughter of the late Arnold Robert and Thelma Mae Kanode, and special mother, Ethel Kanode. She was preceded in death by her parents and son, Michael Blackwell.
Survivors include her husband of 47 years, James Beckner; her children, Joyce Hanshaw, Beverly Blackwell, and Ricky Blackwell (Jennifer); grandchildren, Tiffany Burton, James Hanshaw, Jr., Joshua Hanshaw (Jae), David Blackwell, Brandon Blackwell, and Jessica Masterton; great grandchildren, Hailie Burton, Jason Burton, Jr., James Hanshaw III, Ezekiel Hanshaw, Audrey Williams, Myah Birkman, and Ashleigh Masterton; special ex son-in-law, James Hanshaw, Sr.; sisters, Doris, Ann, Juanita and Darlene; and many other relatives and friends.
Graveside services were held Monday, Mar. 23, 2026, in Highland Memory Gardens in Dublin.
The Beckner family is in the care of the Mullins Funeral Home & Crematory in Radford.
