Barnett, Homer Edward

Homer Edward Barnett, 90, of Blacksburg died Sunday, April 23, 2023, at his home. 

He was born in Blacksburg on August 16, 1932, to the late Richard and India Perkins Barnett. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Nancy Shaver Barnett; his second wife Betty Jo Barnett; his brothers and sisters-in-laws Walter (Elise), Luther (Dorothy), and Eugene; sisters and brothers-in-law Elenora (Luther) Barnett, Julie (Don) Millen, Francis (Luther) Hassele, and Lorraine (AC) Mccoy; and sister-in-law Bessie Barnett.

He was a former member of Blacksburg Fire Department.  His favorite hobbies were playing music, hunting, and working in his yard. 

He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Brenda and Mike Dowdy; three stepchildren Steve (Debbie) Shaver, Jeff Shaver, and David Shaver; sister Lois Ramsey; brother Frank Barnett; sister-in-law Sandy Barnett; granddaughter Rachel Shaver; niece Judy (Buddy) Cooper; a very special nephew Randy (Leigh); and 23 nieces and nephews. 

Funeral services were conducted Friday, April 28, 2023 in the McCoy Funeral Home Chapel with the Reverend John Hopkins officiating. Interment followed in the Roselawn Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
