Gerald G. ‘Jerry’ Thornton, 84, formerly of Montgomery County, Va., passed away on July 25, 2023, with his loved ones by his side.  

He was preceded in death by his first wife of 49 years, Carolyn Adkinson Thornton; his mother, Mildred Hamblin Thornton; and his father, Aubrey C. Thornton.

He was born in Christiansburg.  He leaves behind his beloved wife, Barbara ‘Bobbie’ Janosick of Panama City, Fla.; his daughter, Katrina Thornton Schlagle of Hohenwald, Tenn.; sons,  Mark Wayne Thornton of Wewahitchka, Fla., Curtis Jay Thornton and his wife Brenda L. Thornton of Ebro, Fla.; brother, Harry W. Hall of Christiansburg; four grandchildren, Kayla Thornton Watford and her husband, Kenny Watford, Jesse Thornton and his wife, Jessica Thornton, Kameron Medeiros and his wife, Cory Medeiros, and Michael Schlagle. He is also survived by six great-grandchildren; and extended family; son-in-law and daughter-in-law, Mike and Amy Thiel; three grandchildren, Makenna, Chritian and Campbell Thiel of Dallas, Texas; daughter-in-law and two grandchildren, Justin and Ethen Rogers of Houston Texas; and his very good friends, Doug and Lee Sawyer and Larry and Sue Romberger of Cheyenne, Wy.

Gerald was an avid hunter, fisherman and camper. He loved taking his family on these outside activities, most of which took place from Warren Air Force Base in Wyoming. He proudly served his country with 20 years in the United States Air Force, with two tours in Vietnam, also the Cuban Conflict while he was stationed at Tyndal; Air Force Base in Fla.

He would like to thank his loving family and everybody that helped him throughout his life.
