The local chapter of 100+ Women Who Care of the New River Valley (100+ WWC NRV) has donated $10,500 to the member selected organization, Calfee Community and Cultural Center.
Calfee Community and Cultural Center in Pulaski, Virginia, began as the Calfee Training School, an institution that was created as a school for African American children in 1894. The school educated African American children until 1966 when the Pulaski County School system fully integrated. Calfee Community and Cultural Center in Pulaski, Virginia, began as the Calfee Training School, an institution that was created as a school for African American children in 1894. The school educated African American children until 1966 when the Pulaski County School system fully integrated. It has evolved into a community center which offers learning opportunities and childcare availability to children and families in Pulaski County. In addition, Calfee Community and Cultural Center houses the African American Heritage Center which honors the rich legacy of the Calfee Training School.

Calfee Community and Cultural Center was presented with their donation from the 100+ WWC NRV on May 20, 2026. The local chapter of 100+ WWC NRV meets quarterly on the third Tuesday of January, April, July and October. 100+ WWC NRV’s next meeting will next Tuesday, July 21, 2026, at 6:15 p.m. at Warm Hearth in Blacksburg. Committed members donate $100 each quarter and each meeting lasts one hour. At each 100+ WWC NRV quarterly meeting, three local not-for-profits are drawn from a bucket. Each organization must have a 100+ WWC NRV sponsor willing to present on its behalf. After the three presentations, the membership votes on which organization to support at that meeting. 100+ WWC NRV’s membership area includes the counties of Montgomery, Giles, Pulaski, Floyd and the City of Radford. All interested women are invited to join the 100+ WWC NRV to support local not-for profits that make the New River Valley a better place to live.
