Helen Louise Henry Wright, 101, of Big Stone Gap, Virginia, passed away on Sunday, Oct. 14, 2018. Helen was born on April 18, 1917 to the late Charles and Mary Henry.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Lawrence Wright, brothers, Kenneth, Gerald and Richard; sisters, Ruth, Henrietta, Marjorie, Patricia; son-in-law, Atwell Hopkins and grandson Tim Hopkins.
Helen married Lawrence Emory Wright April 9, 1934. They had two children: Marcella Wright Hopkins and Charles Lawrence Wright (Gale Collier).
Helen is survived by her grandchildren: Mark Hopkins (Marty), Dee Hopkins, Steve Wright (Sandra), Allison Wright, and Amanda Cameron (Sean); also by eleven great grandchildren: Will Hopkins (Hannah), Anne Scott Hopkins, Clay Hopkins, Sylvia Morris (Matt), Collier Young, Cager Garrett, Benjamin Wright, Mason Young, Abigale Wright, Tricia Young and Lily Cameron.
Helen was active in Oak Grove Baptist Church, sang in the choir, taught Sunday School and loved her church. Helen and Lawrence were partners in establishing a successful building company, Henry Construction Company and Helen was the chief bookkeeper. She loved her job. She enjoyed reading, traveling and watching her grandchildren and great grandchildren grow in grace. Helen was a wonderful, Christian woman and a source of strength and love for her family and all who knew her.
A graveside service will be held on Thursday, Oct.18, 2018 at 3 p.m. in Big Stone Gap, VA at Powell Valley Memorial Gardens.
