RADFORD – The Women’s Resource Center of the New River Valley (WRCNRV) Inclusion Council will host a day of “joy, connection, and celebration” at the Annual WRCNRV Pride Picnic, a free, all ages community event honoring Pride Month, Juneteenth and National Safety Month.
The event will take place Friday, June 20 starting at 11 a.m. and continuing into the evening at Shelter One, Bisset Park, Radford.
The community gathering will feature a PB&J bar, snacks, crafts, games, face painting, and local musician Ash Devine will perform an acoustic set. Free gender-affirming haircuts will be available from Roanoke stylist Misfit Beauty Club. Please email misfithaircompany@gmail.com to reserve your haircut before Thursday, June 19.
“In the spirit of community support, the WRCNRV will be joined by local and state organizations,” WRCNRV announced. “This is a wonderful opportunity for local nonprofits and organizations to connect with attendees, share resources, and raise awareness for their causes in a festive, inclusive environment.”
To reserve a spot or for more information, please contact outreach2@wrcnrv.org. The Radford Pride March will also start at Triangle Park on Main Street (across from the Radford Coffee Company) at 3 p.m. and the route will end at the WRCNRV’s free celebration at Shelter One in Bisset Park.
According to the march organizer, Viri Bell, the route “takes us eight-tenths of a mile along Main Street and down into Bisset Park to meet the Pride Picnic at Shelter One. Please wear comfortable shoes and sun protection, bring pride flags and paper or cardboard signs, and arrive with good vibes in mind!”
Whether you’re coming to celebrate, support local initiatives, or just enjoy the community, this event directly supports the WRCNRV Inclusivity Proclamation, which states the WRCNRV “proclaims and practices inclusivity with the people they serve, collaborators in the community and selection of its board and staff regardless of age, citizenship status, color, disability, economic status, ethnicity, gender, gender expression, gender identity, marital status, military status, national origin, political affiliation, primary language, race, religion, or sexual orientation.” “This year’s picnic promises to be a vibrant celebration of inclusion, safety, local impact, and unity.”
