RADFORD – The Woman’s Club of Radford recently wrapped up a year of supporting the community with donations for the Women’s Resource Center of the New River Valley.

“The Woman’s Club was 123 years old in 2024, but age has not slowed it,” the club announced in its newsletter. “In addition to our usual activities of Reading is Fundamental in three elementary schools, twice a year, and Babies into Books for newborns, the club has expanded its literacy outreach into several new ventures.”

“In December, we had a lunch meeting at the Inn at Virginia Tech, and after lunch we gathered our donations for the Women’s Resource Center in Radford,” the newsletter reads. “This year we followed the request list for adults in the Center and donated toiletries, gift cards, and clothing.”

The club also donated a set of classroom diversity books to Pulaski’s Calfee Community Center in Pulaski. The former African American school during segregation is being revitalized with three classrooms for young children.

The club also oversaw Head Start book distribution, with members visiting five Head Start classrooms to read to the children and give them books. The club also donated to the Radford Public Library Lamplighters in support of their enrollment in Dolly Parton’s Imagination Station which provides free books for children under five.

“Promoting children’s literacy is the primary goal of the Women’s Club of Radford and we are fortunate to have so many opportunities to do so.”
