David Thomas Whitlock, 73, of Barren Springs, Virginia gained his heavenly body on Friday, July 28, 2023, at his home surrounded by loved ones who will continue to honor his memory by living their lives to the fullest.

David was born March 24, 1950, in Radford to the late Maynard “Bunk” and Betty Murdock Whitlock. What a joyous reunion, walking on streets of gold with them.

David is survived by his loving wife, Mary “Peachy” Ryan Whitlock; two daughters, Mitzi Young and Kathy (Scott) Aust; four grandchildren, Ashley (Justin) Hatch, Austin (Lottie) Young, Kayla (Cody) Blankenship, and Dylan Young; four great grandchildren, Deklan and Larken Hatch, Carter and Hudson Young; a very special niece, Jaicey Dalton; siblings, Sue (Jackie) Ratcliffe, Karen (David) Sale and Donald (Arlene) Whitlock.  David had many other family members and close friends. He will also be missed by his special fur baby, Gracie.

He was employed at Lynchburg Foundry and then New River Castings from 1968 until they closed in 2003. He was a dedicated and hard-working man, also working at Carilion Hospital, Phoenix Packing and ending his career at Newcan.

David was an avid outdoors man, he loved to golf, hunt, fish, gardening, and piddling outside.  He was a man of many talents and accomplishments.  He loved working with his hands and could make anything and fix it if it was broken.  David never missed the opportunity to tell a joke, his humor was quick and effortless, and always hilarious. He was an animal lover his entire life.  You could always find a dog by his side or on his lap.

The family will receive friends 5 – 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 2, 2023, at the Mullins Funeral Home.  Memorial services will follow with the Pastor Neil Wood officiating.

The family would like to give special thanks to the staff and Physicians at NRV Carilion Medical Center and Carilion Hospice for the loving care they provided David.

The Whitlock family is in the care of Mullins Funeral Home & Crematory in Radford.
