Johnnie Gaynor collected three hits in four at bats, as the Auburn softball team defeated Bland 18-0 on Friday. Gaynor singled twice in the first inning and singled in the fourth inning.
Auburn got on the board in the bottom of the first inning after Hope Wilson singled, scoring one run, Addison Earley singled, scoring one run, Kaylen Mitcham singled, scoring one run, Leah Wimmer singled, scoring one run, an error scored one run, Faith Wilson singled, scoring one run, Ava Marrs doubled, scoring one run, and Gaynor singled, scoring two runs.
Auburn scored six runs on seven hits in the bottom of the second inning. Mitcham doubled, scoring one run, Wimmer doubled, scoring one run, Sophia Hambrick singled, scoring one run, Marrs singled, scoring one run, an error scored one run, and Wilson doubled, scoring one run.
Skyler Hodges earned the win for the Eagles. The hurler surrendered one hit and zero runs over one inning, striking out three and walking none. Wilson pitched three innings in relief, giving up zero hits and zero runs while striking out six and walking one.
Auburn tallied 23 hits in the game. Earley led the team with four hits in four at bats. Mitcham and Wilson each drove in three runs for Auburn Varsity Eagles. Marrs, Wilson, Gaynor, Kaylee Ramrattan, Wimmer, and Hambrick each collected multiple hits for Auburn Varsity Eagles.
Auburn downs East Mont
Kaylen Mitcham drove in five runs on three hits to lead Auburn Varsity Eagles past Eastern Montgomery Varsity Mustangs 13-0 on Wednesday. Mitcham hit a home run to left field in the second inning, scoring three runs, and tripled in the fifth inning, scoring one.
Auburn jumped out to the lead in the top of the second inning after Mitcham homered to left field, scoring three runs, and Kaylee Ramrattan doubled, scoring one run.
The team added one run in the third after Leah Wimmer doubled to center field.
Auburn scored six runs on three hits in the top of the fifth inning. Ramrattan singled, scoring one run, Hope Wilson singled, scoring one run, Kenzie Dunbar induced Ariel Mullins to hit into a fielder’s choice, but one run scored, Addison Earley hit a sacrifice fly, scoring one run, Mitcham tripled, scoring one run, and a steal of home scored one run.
Skyler Hodges earned the win, allowing just two hits and zero runs over five innings, striking out five and walking none. Mary Miller took the loss for Eastern Montgomery. The right-handed pitcher went three and two-thirds innings, giving up seven runs (six earned) on eight hits, striking out none and walking three.
Auburn tallied 11 hits in the game and stole five bases in the game.
Macie Akers and Rena Chandler each collected one hit for the Mustangs.
Auburn baseball picks up win
The Auburn baseball team moved to 6-2 overall and 4-0 in the district with a 13-1 win over Bland. Canyon Calhoun picked up the win on the mound going four innings allowing one hit and one unearned run while striking out eight.
The offense was led by Brody Hensel and Jayden Lawrence. Hensel went 3-3 with two doubles and scored three runs. Lawrence went 2-3 with a double and three RBI.
The Auburn baseball team traveled to Glade Spring and took an 11-4 defeat at the hands of a slugging Patrick Henry offense. PH hammered out 14 hits and scored multiple runs in three different innings.
The Rebels scored three in the first and one in the second to take a 4-0 lead. The Eagles offense showed life in the second with leadoff back-to-back homeruns by Brody Hensel and Matthew Altizer.
Canyon Calhoun followed with a single and Alex Young reached on an error. Colin Roark drove in Calhoun with a groundout to make it 4-3. PH answered right back with two in the bottom of the third to make it 6-3.
Auburn added their final run in the fourth when with one out Jayden Lawrence singled and moved to second on a WP. With two outs Altizer had an infield single and Lawrence scored on Calhoun’s third hit of the game. PH put the game away with five runs in the sixth to win 11-4.
Auburn soccer moves to 7-0-1
The Auburn boys’ soccer team picked up an 8-0 win this past week over James River to remain unbeaten overall on the season. Senior Jared Bradley scored three goals for the Eagles, and Cole Jones had three assists.
