Weekly Reports: Blacksburg Boys Take Battle of Burgs

Blacksburg defeated Christiansburg 4-0 this past week. The Bruins took the lead in the fifth minute on a goal from Pee Wee Distler assisted by Keanan Kopp resulting in a 1-0 halftime lead. Kopp found Distler early in the second half again for a score of 2-0 for Blacksburg. Alex Doyle assisted Esteban Carvajal and Craig Huxtable banged in a goal from thirty yards out to round out the scoring. Nathan Pratt and Toby Jones shared the Bruins shutout with two saves and one save, respectively. Ian Roark collected five saves for Christiansburg, who fell to 6-2. Blacksburg’s record is now 9-0.

Blacksburg Girls Also Down Christiansburg

Blacksburg High School girls soccer team defeated Christiansburg 4-0 on a rainy night in Blacksburg. Erin Bishop and Bella Garza each scored two goals to lead Blacksburg. Blacksburg improves to 9-1, 6-0 while Christiansburg drops to 6-3, 3-3.

Auburn Rolls in Baseball

Auburn took a big lead early and cruised to a 12-0 win over Bland to go to 14-1 on the season. Jared Lavergne, Mitchell Hale, Josh Givens and Talan Mower had two hits apiece with Hale driving in four runs and Mower three. Matthew Altizer picked up the win going two innings allowing no hits and striking out six.

Colin Roark, Graham Alley and Cody Flinchum pitched an inning each with Roark picking up three strikeouts.

Christiansburg Downs Pulaski in Softball

Despite trailing by as many as six runs, the Christiansburg softball team rallied to best Pulaski County 9-7 on Tuesday. Aubrey Davis homered to center field, which helped Christiansburg tie the game at one in the bottom of the second. Pulaski flipped the game on its head in the top of the third, scoring six runs on four hits to take the lead, 7-1. The biggest blow in the inning was a single by Puckett that drove in two.

Christiansburg would then score five runs on four hits to take the lead, 8-7. The biggest blow in the inning was a single by Reagan Smith that drove in three.

Davis earned the win as she surrendered three hits and zero runs over four innings, striking out one and walking none.

Auburn Picks Up Softball Win

Kaylee Ramrattan drove in six runs on two hits to lead Auburn past Giles 17-2 on Tuesday. Ramrattan doubled in the second inning, scoring three runs, and doubled in the third inning, scoring three.

Auburn scored five runs on three hits in the top of the second inning. Ramrattan doubled, scoring three runs, Ariel Mullins grounded out, scoring one run, and Leah Wimmer doubled, scoring one run.

Auburn added three runs in the third. Ramrattan doubled to center field, making the score 10-0.

McKenzie Booth earned the win for Auburn, giving up just two hits and two runs over five innings, striking out eight and walking none. Kylee Snider took the loss for Giles. The hurler went three innings, surrendering 10 runs on seven hits, striking out one and walking five.

Auburn collected 14 hits in the game. Akers, Ramrattan, Gaynor, Booth, and Wimmer each collected two hits for Auburn Varsity Eagles.
