The undefeated Virginia Tech women’s basketball program rose to number No. 6 in the AP Poll Monday afternoon, the highest ranking in the program’s history.

Last week, the Hokies opened ACC play with a 73-58 victory at Boston College in a game that saw Elizabeth Kitley (22) and Cayla King (16) score in double figures. Sunday afternoon on Carilion Clinic Court at Cassell Coliseum, VT ran past UNC Asheville 86-48.

For the first time since December of 2016, six Virginia Tech athletes scored in double figures: Taylor Soule (21), Kitley (18), King (12), D’asia Gregg (10), Georgia Amoore (10), and Kayana Traylor (10).

Several Hokies own impressive standings in the national rankings.

Center Elizabeth Kitley

  • One of three athletes in women’s basketball to average 18 points per game and 11 rebounds.
  • She is third in the nation with eight double-doubles.
  • She ranks eighth in total rebounds (112) and fourth in defensive rebounds per game (8.6).

Point guard Georgia Amoore

  • One of seven athletes in women’s basketball to record a triple-double this season.

Olivia Miles (Notre Dame) is the only other ACC athlete to achieve the feat.

  • Amoore  ranks ninth in total assists (67) and assists per game (6.7) in the country.
  • Sunday afternoon she recorded her first career double-double with 10 points and 10 assists vs. UNC Asheville. She has scored in double figures in eight of Tech’s first 10 contests.

Shooting guard Cayla King

  • King ranks seventh in the NCAA in three-point field goals with 33 through 10 games.
  • No athlete has scored more threes in a single game than her nine in the season opener vs. Mount St. Mary’s, a program record.

VT team marks in NCAA

  • Third in scoring defense (48.5); fifth in scoring margin (30.9); seventh in 3FG defense (23.2); eleventh in FG defense (33.1).

Additionally, the Hokies lead the ACC in assist-to-turnover ratio (1.3), free throw percentage (76.2), and three-point field goals per game (8.4).
