RADFORD – Radford City Council will hold a virtual meeting on Monday, Sept. 28, including a public hearing on the bond ordinance for the funding of the renovations and expansion of McHarg Elementary School.

City Council has advertising for a Virginia Public School Authority bond in the amount of $16 million. Council has also endorsed a contract by the Radford City School Board with Avis Construction  to proceed with the McHarg Elementary School renovation project in the amount of $13,296,500. The $13.3 bid price does not include a contingency fund or the price of bond issuance, thus the $16 million bond advertisement.

The school board received six bids for the renovation project, with Avis Construction coming in with the lowest bid. Avis Construction is a Roanoke-based company with school construction experience, including Falling Branch Elementary School in Montgomery County.
