Virginia Tech releases 2023 indoor track and field schedule

BLACKSBURG – Virginia Tech Track and Field head coach Dave Cianelli has announced the 2023 indoor schedule. The Hokies will compete at 10 meets throughout the regular season, hosting four home meets at Rector Field House. 

The Hokies will kick off the new season with two consecutive home weekend meets in Blacksburg, starting with the Virginia Tech Invitational on Jan. 13-14 followed by the Hokie Invitational on Jan. 20-21.

 After the first two home meets, the program will travel to Louisville, Ky. to compete at the PNC Lenny Lyles Invitational on Jan. 27-28.

The distance crew will take the weekend off to prepare for the JDL Camel City Invitational on Feb. 3-4 in Winston-Salem, N.C. While the distance crew is in Winston-Salem, Tech will host the Doc Hale VT Meet on Feb. 3-4. 

The weekend of Feb. 10 – 11 Tech will be split across three meets. Sprints, hurdles, and jumps will travel to Clemson, S.C. to compete at the Tiger Paw Invite while distance travels to the David Hemery Valentine Invitational in Boston, Mass. The throws group will be in Nashville, Tenn. competing at the Indoor Music City Challenge. 

The regular season will come to an end with the Virginia Tech Challenge on Feb. 17-18, while members of the distance squad return to Winston-Salem, N.C. for the JDL DMR Invitational. 

The University of Louisville will host the ACC Indoor Championships on Feb. 23-25 in Louisville, Ky. The Hokies won the men’s and women’s ACC Indoor Championships in 2022, marking the first time in ACC history that a host school has won both titles. The men’s team is looking for their third straight indoor championship title while the women look for their third win in the past four years. 

The championship season will conclude on March 10-11 when the Hokies travel to Albuquerque, N.M. to compete at the NCAA Indoor Championships. At last year’s national meet, Tech claimed two individual titles and 14 All-American honors. Lindsey Butler finished first in the women’s 800m with a facility record time of 2:01.37 in Birmingham, Ala. Pole vaulter Rachel Baxter won the national championships with an ACC record clearance of 4.62m.

Feb. 3-4, Doc Hale Virginia Tech Meet (Blacksburg) 

Feb. 10-11 David Hemery Valentine Invitational (Boston, Mass.) 

Feb. 10-11, Tiger Paw Invite (Clemson, S.C.)

Feb. 10-11, Indoor Music City Challenge (Nashville, Tenn.)

Feb. 17-18, Virginia Tech Challenge (Blacksburg)
