Anne King Venturino passed away Oct. 28, 2024. Anne was born in Pearisburg on April 13, 1941 to the late Edward King and Margaret King. She is survived by her husband Ernest (Ernie) Venturino, her daughters LeeAnne Sallade, and Amy Venturino Huffman (Aubrey), her grandchildren, Emily, Adam and Brice Sallade, and her sisters Kay Moody, Carol Lee Guest, her brother Eddie King, and many nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by her son-in-law Tom Sallade.

Anne graduated from Blacksburg High School in 1958 where she was a cheerleader and voted the homecoming queen her senior year.

After earning her B.A. degree from Madison College, Anne worked in the Henrico County Public Schools for 30 years. During that time, she held the positions of English teacher, department chairman at J. R. Tucker H.S., and coordinator for English and Reading for secondary education in Henrico County.  Anne earned her master’s degree from the University of Richmond in 1974.

Anne retired in 1995 and returned to Blacksburg in 1997 with her husband.

Anne enjoyed life. She loved her children and grandchildren, traveling to her cottage on Gwynn’s Island, sailing, and all aspects of river life. After retiring, Anne became a “snowbird” in Florida where she and her husband spent the winter for 26 years.

Anne was a charter member of the West End Cultural Society and co-director of Camp Gwynn.

Anne was respected and loved by her family and many friends.  We have lost such a bright light in our lives.

The date of a memorial service will be announced later.
