The NRV Resiliency Network is offering a free workshop for any helping professional or individual who seeks to understand trauma at the Radford Public Library, 6-7:30 p.m. Training will address how trauma affects more than behavior, the science of the brain and nervous system, and more. School Zone Speed Safety Program
Today, Wednesday, Sept. 9, 2026, the School Zone Speed Safety Program in Blacksburg will transition from the 30-day warning period to full enforcement. Vehicles recorded traveling at or above the established 11mph threshold in the school zones located at Gilbert Linkous Elementary School on Toms Creek Road, and Blacksburg Middle School on Prices Fork Road will be subject to a $100 civil citation. Community Forum on the three Constitutional Amendments that will be on the fall ballot. The League of Women Voters and Virginia Tech’s Lifelong Learning Institute are jointly sponsoring the event at 7 p.m. in Blacksburg’s Town Council Chambers.

A Tribute to Heroes closing ceremony
Radford Noon Rotary, Glencoe Mansion, Radford VFW Post 776 and the Gen. William Campbell Chapter of the DAR host closing ceremony for “A Tribute to Heroes,” at Glencoe Mansion with the theme “Celebrating 250 Years of Heroes.” Begins at 5:30 p.m. with music by Radford Noon Rotary President Jim Mitchell. Official ceremony at 6 p.m. with remarks from Radford Mayor David Horton, Radford Police Chief Jerry Holdaway, Deacon Richard P. Bolgiano of St. Jude Catholic Church and Virginia DAR District VII Director Karen Finch. Radford University Army ROTC, the Radford Fire Department and the Radford VFW will also participate. A reception through donations from local businesses will follow.

Radford City Council meeting
The Radford City Council will hold its regularly scheduled meeting at 7 p.m. in council chambers at the Radford Municipal Building, 10 Robertson St., Radford. Citizens are invited to attend and allowed to speak at each meeting. See the agenda at www.radfordva.gov.
Montgomery County Board of Supervisors meeting
Public meetings are normally held the second and fourth Monday of each month at the Montgomery County Government Center, 755 Roanoke St., Christiansburg. Closed sessions begin at 6 p.m. if needed. Open sessions begin at 7:15 p.m. Citizens are invited to attend and allowed to speak at each meeting. All regular meetings of the Board of Supervisors are rebroadcast on Montgomery County Comcast and Shentel Channels 190 daily.

Christiansburg Town Council meeting

Sons of Confederate Veterans meeting
The Sons of Confederate Veterans, Stuart Horse Artillery Camp 1784 will meet at 7 p.m. at the NRV Superbowl, 375 Arbor Drive NE, Christiansburg. Art exhibit opening
Public reception for “Wood, Water and Stone: The Language of Landscapes” by Dianne Gillis-Robinson, at the Montgomery Museum, Christiansburg, 5- 7 p.m. Gillis-Robinson paints mostly in oils and pastels and is partial to landscapes, but also does still-life and animal paintings. Dianne Gillis-Robinson is largely self-taught but also studied primarily at Art League Houston under noted artist, Laura Spector. The exhibit will be on display throughout September, October and November.

Blues Brews & BBQ
The Blacksburg Museum & Cultural Foundation’s Annual Blues, Brews, & BBQ at the St. Luke & Odd Fellows Hall. Beer and wine, barbeque and sweet treats for purchase from Blue Ridge Beverage and Kirk’s Famous BBQ. The New River Blues Society will be on site with information and as event support. Admission is free, though a $10 donation is suggested. All funds will help exhibit redesign at the St. Luke & Odd Fellows Hall, slated for a grand reopening on Juneteenth 2027! Kiwanis Wilderness Trail Festival
The 53rd annual Kiwanis Wilderness Trail Festival will take place in downtown Christiansburg. The event includes local arts and crafts vendors, craft demonstrations, a children’s area, two stages, an emergency services location, great food all day, raffles, a silent auction and more.

Opening concert of the Radford University 26-27 University Performance Series with three-time Grammy winner and five-time IBMA Fiddle Player of the Year, Jason Carter.
