Family movie fun

At the Radford Public Library; 11 a.m. The  minions return in Minions: The Rise of Gru. Rated PG for some action/violence and rude humor. 

 

Monday, Nov. 21:

 

Crafting for the Holiday: Birdseed ornament

At the Radford Public Library; 1 to 2 p.m. Participants can enjoy a simple craft with minimal items and feed birds in their yard with their finished result. Library staff will demonstrate how to create a birdseed ornament for the cool weather. Supplies will be provided while they last.

 

Tuesday, Nov. 22:

 

Shrink art

At the Blacksburg Library; 4:30 p.m. Shrinking plastic will be used to make key chains, earrings, and more. Registration required for participation.

 

NaNoWriMo Event: Create found poetry

At the Blacksburg Library; 6 p.m. Find words in magazines and newspapers to create a found poem. All ages are welcome. Snacks will be provided.

 

Chess club for teens & tweens

At the Radford Public Library; 6 to 7 p.m. Youth Services Specialist Dave will be in the community room for a game of chess. For ages 8-17.

 

Wednesday, Nov. 23 – Sunday, Nov. 27:

 

Radford Public Library closed

Closed for the Thanksgiving holiday.

 

Monday, Nov. 28:

 

Crafting for the Holiday: Open crafting

At the Radford Public Library; 1 – 2 p.m. Participants can bring their own needlework, painting, or other projects and work with others. These crafting afternoons are not guided and are at participants’ leisure. Some craft items will be supplied. (paper, coloring books for adults, crayons, etc).

 

Tuesday, Nov. 29:

 

Game On

At the Christiansburg Library; 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. Gamers of all ages are welcome to play a variety of Nintendo games. Participants are encouraged to bring their portable device, but it is not required. Snacks will be provided.

 

NaNoWriMo Event: We draw what you write

At the Blacksburg Library; 6 p.m. Each group will have an image to write a description about, and the rest of the group will draw the image based on the description. All ages are welcome.  Snacks will be provided.

 

Wednesday, Nov. 30:

 

Sustainable Blacksburg Lunch & Learn: Energy check

At the Blacksburg Library; noon. An introduction to home energy audits. Home owners will learn how you can make their home more comfortable and more energy efficient while maximizing returns from current tax incentives. The speaker represents Blacksburg Home Energy Improvement Company: Energy Check.

 

Friday, Dec. 2:

 

Blacksburg holiday parade

Registration is now open for Blacksburg’s annual holiday parade to be held on Friday, Dec. 2, at 7 p.m. This year’s theme will be “Hometown Holidays.” The registration deadline is Friday, Nov. 18, at 5 p.m. For more information, contact David Goodman at degoodman@blacksburg.gov or 540-443-1106.

 

Friday, Dec. 2 – Sunday, Dec. 3:

 

A Festival of Nativities

Slussers Chapel, located at 1543 Mt. Tabor Rd., Blacksburg, will be displaying over 70 vintage Nativity sets from across the U.S. and around the world. Included in the display will be Waterford crystal figures from Ireland, Fantanini figures from Italy, and Hummel figures from Germany.. The children will enjoy seeing the kitten and puppy manger scenes and of course “A Charlie Brown Christmas.” The Christmas Crèches will be on display in the fellowship hall Friday, Dec. 2, and Saturday Dec. 3, from 5 to 9 p.m. and Sunday, Dec. 4, from 3 to 8 p.m. Admission is free. Tuesday, Dec. 6:

 

RSVP holiday recognition party

A holiday recognition party for RSVP volunteers is scheduled from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Christiansburg Recreation Center in Multipurpose Room 2. Everyone is asked to sign up by Tuesday, Nov. 22. RSVP will collect Toys for Tots from anyone wishing to donate to this holiday project.

 

Thursday, Dec. 8:

 

River City Quilt Guild

The River City Quilt Guild will meet at 9:30 a.m. at Grove United Methodist Church, 1020 Tyler Ave., Radford. All skill levels of quilters are welcome. For more information, call Anna Handy, 540 320 7791.

Hand-in-Hand Playground design concepts

The Town of Blacksburg has received design concepts from playground designer Leathers, Inc., for the new Hand-in-Hand playground. Check them out at https://letstalkblacksburg.org/hand-in-hand. 

 

Radford holiday parade registration

Radford’s Holiday Parade, themed “Jingle All the Way”, will take place on Thursday, Dec. 8, 2022, at 7 p.m. Line-up will begin at 6 p.m. The parade route will line up on East Main Street between Tyler Avenue and University Drive Bridge and proceed westward along Main Street to the Central Square Shopping Center. Go to www.radfordva.gov to register. Deadline to register is Nov. 30.

 

Help the veterans with your donations

Meadowbrook Public Library is a collection point for items needed at the VA Medical Center in Salem. Bring donations of the following items to the library through the month of November: deodorant, denture adhesive, 3-in-1 body wash/shampoo/conditioner, body lotion, toothpaste, nail clippers, sweatpants, sweatshirts, t-shirts (size M, L, XL) , and new baseball caps. Co-Sponsored by VFW Post 5311 and Montgomery-Floyd Regional libraries.

 

Free GED classes

At the Meadowbrook Public Library, 5 to 8 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays. New River Community College is offering free GED classes every Tuesday and Thursday until Thursday, Dec. 15. For more information or to sign up, call the Meadowbrook Library at 540-268-1964.
