Linda Deemer (front) and Madeline Manpin, both of Christiansburg, volunteered at last year’s Stuff The Bus event at the Christiansburg Walmart. Hosted by the United Way, the annual drive collects donated school supplies for students in Montgomery County, Floyd County and the City of Radford. For more information, visit unitedwaynrv.org.

United Way of Montgomery, Radford and Floyd’s eighth-annual Stuff the Bus campaign is going on now until July 31. Stuff the Bus is a school supply drive for children in need in the New River Valley.

On Saturday, July 29, a Stuff the Bus Event will take place at the Walmart in Christiansburg. Three school buses from Montgomery County, Radford City, and Floyd County will be parked at Walmart from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. On this day, the community is urged to “stuff the bus” to send local children back to school prepared to learn. Please come by and purchase some supplies!

Additionally, other locations throughout the community will have drop bins available for donations throughout July and ending on Monday, July 31. Those locations are:

Montgomery: Kroger on South Main St. in Blacksburg and Dollar General in Riner.

Radford: Radford Public Library and Dollar General.

Floyd: Floyd Pharmacy, Dollar General, Citizens and Slaughter’s Supermarket.

All items received in a specific community will be distributed to children in need within that community. All donations stay local to serve the needs of local children.

Distribution of the school supplies this year will be through local partner charities and through partnering with local school systems to provide supplies for teachers who identify student needs.

For families in need of assistance with school supplies, or for those who’d like to volunteer to collect school supplies on the 29 or sort collected supplies on the 31, contact United Way of Montgomery, Radford and Floyd at 381-2066 or by email at info@unitedwaynrv.org.
