Two companies, one university in Montgomery County receive FY2018 CRCF awards

Earlier this month, Governor Ralph Northam announced nearly $2.7 million in funding in support of 34 Commonwealth Research Commercialization Fund awards.


The projects represent exciting advancements in six industries: biosciences and medical technologies, cybersecurity, clean energy, water quality, data analytics, and unmanned systems.

AVEC, Inc. of Blacksburg and Sentek Instrument, LLC of Blacksburg each received awards and Virginia Tech received three.

AVEC, Inc. received a $50,000 award in the commercialization program in the energy field with a focus on a project titled “Noise Reduction of a continuous Miner Scrubber Fan System Using an Acoustic Liner.” Sentek Instrument, LLC received a $50,000 award in the commercialization program in the energy field with a focus on “Ultra-High Temperature Sensors for Clean Power Generation Systems.”

In addition, Virginia Tech received two awards as part of the matching funds program with one for $100,000 in the energy field with a focus on research titled An Automated and Cost-Effective Lithium-Ion Battery Direct Recycling Program, and one for $100,000 in the energy field titled Ultra-Miniature Ultra-High Temperature Sapphire Sensor for Power Generation.

Virginia Tech also received an award as part of the eminent researcher recruitment program for $250,000 in the cybersecurity field with a focus on cybersecurity for the Internet of things.
