Radford University redshirt-senior outfielder Andrew Szamski (Glen Arm, Md.) has been named the Big South Conference Baseball Player of the Week, while infielder David Bryant (Johnson City, Tenn.) was tabbed as the Freshman of the Week.
Szamski finished a neutral-site series with Bucknell and Wofford 6-for-10 at the plate with six RBI and six runs scored to lead the Radford offense to a 2-1 record last weekend. In Radford’s two games against Bucknell, the redshirt-senior was 5-for-7 — headlined by two home runs in the teams’ second meeting on Sunday. In the three-game span, he slugged 1.200 and posted the highest on-base percentage of anyone in the conference at .667.
Bryant totaled a hit in all three of Radford’s nonconference games last week, highlighted by a two-hit performance in the Highlanders’ 17-4 triumph over Bucknell on Sunday. The freshman recorded a .615 on-base percentage with four hits and four walks in Radford’s three-game set. In addition, he scored five times and drove in three runs. He also launched his first career homer against Wofford.
