Courtland Alexander Stewart, 45, passed away Sunday, January 13, 2019, at his home in Lillington, NC.
Court was born March 23, 1973. He graduated from Christiansburg (VA) High School, Radford (VA) University, and the University of Tennessee at Knoxville. Court was intensely loyal and kind. He was known for many things – he liked interesting facts, performing magic tricks, building computers, drawing sketches, and above all, playing music.
Court’s love for music grew into a particular fondness for jazz. He played with countless fellow musicians and friends in places including the New River Valley and Roanoke Valley in VA; The Homestead in Hot Springs, VA; a cruise ship; Atlanta, GA; and the Sandhills and Raleigh regions in NC. He was also a certified piano tuner and taught both private lessons and classes at Sandhills Community College.
Court was predeceased by his mother, Diana Stewart. He is survived by his father, Jim Stewart; twin brother, Jamie Stewart; sister, Beth Johnson; brother-in-law, Robert Johnson; and niece, Julia Johnson; all of Christiansburg.
A celebration of Court’s life will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 26, 2019, at Blue Ridge Church, 1655 Roanoke St., Christiansburg; with a reception immediately afterward.
Court loved teaching and sharing music with others. In lieu of flowers, please consider supporting future music students by giving to the Radford University Foundation, PO Box 6893, Radford, VA 24142, with your donation marked “Courtland Stewart.”
