My family has lived in Christiansburg in two different homes for 50 years. I am pleased to say that during that time we have not had to call the fire department, even the time our cat got stuck in the neighbors’ tree.
It certainly has been satisfying to know that help from fire and rescue departments is just minutes away. They say in life today, you never know what is going to happen next. When trained support people are nearby it is reassuring to know that assistance and help are close by.
October 4-10 is Fire Prevention Week. One of the highlights of the week is “Touch a Truck” at the Christiansburg Fire Department from 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 6. The event gives kids and adults the opportunity to explore fire trucks, emergency vehicles, and fire equipment. Firemen will also discuss different methods of making your home as safe and fire proof as possible.
The fire department relies on donations to maintain equipment, provide training and be able to respond to emergency calls. Donations are always accepted: Christiansburg Fire Department, 110 Depot Street, Christiansburg, VA 24073.
Tell individuals at the fire department Steve sent you, nothing like a nice donation. That will make everyone feel better, particularly me.
