The Auburn girls’ track team is the state’s Class 1 champion, while Blacksburg doubled up the competition to take the girls’ Class 4.
The Auburn girls tallied 73 points to second place Brunswick’s 65. Eastside was third with 61 points. On the boys’ side of the track, Auburn finished third with 60 points as Brunswick took the team title with 73, edging out Middlesex (72 points) in the last event of the day.
The Lady Bruins tallied 111.5 points to second place Atlee’s 59.5 points. Manor finished third with 48 points. The Blacksburg boys finished fourth in the Class 4 ranks as Jamestown took the team title.
In Class 3, the Christiansburg girls finished in ninth while the boys’ squad was 26th.
In Class 2, Floyd claimed the boys title with Radford finishing third. The Lady Bobcats would finish in ninth as Clark took the team title.
The bright spot for Christiansburg was Leila Haley, who won the 400 meters and placed third in the 100 and 200 meters.
The Blacksburg girls were led by Tamoy Douglas with a first in the 200 meters and second in the 100. Reilly Thomas would add to the points with a state title in the 800. Blacksburg’s Lola Olsen would finish second in the 3,200 and third in the 1,600. Ruthie Delapp was fourth in both of those events.
The Lady Bruins would win both the 4X100 and 4X800 relays, and Grace Crowe was third in the discus.
For the Blacksburg boys, Daniel Bandera finished second in the 800 and Miles Ermann was fifth in the 1,600. Leighton McGee would be the team’s lone state title with a 16-0 mark in the pole vault.
Auburn’s Kobi Bonds brought home a state trophy in the Class 1 shot with a throw of 56-6.5. He also finished second in the discus. Talan Mower also gave the Auburn boys a first place in the pole vault with a leap of 12-6. His teammates Drew Royal (second in the high jump at 6-4) and Isayah Hamaan (third in 110 hurdles) also scored in the top five spots.
The Eastern Montgomery boys’ had its 4X800 relay finish third, and Calvin Wilbon was fourth in the 3,200 meters.
On the girls side of the of the track, Auburn’s Allyson Harris continued the school’s dominance in the discus with a throw of 112-7. She also finished third in the shot event.
Allyson Funk led Auburn to a first place finish in the 3,200 meters and second in the 1,600 meters. Maggie Earnest was third in the high jump, while Macy Hollandsworth finished second in the pole vault with teammate Gretchen Surface in third place.
The Eastern Montgomery girls’ finished third in the 4X800 relay, slipping by Auburn who was fourth.
