Starnes, Sharron Vance

Sharron Vance Starnes, 80, of Radford, passed away Saturday, March 18, 2023. Sharron was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest and Colleen Vance; and brother, Tom Vance.  Survivors include her husband of 62 years, Tom Starnes; son and daughter-in-law, Craig and Kristen Starnes; daughter and son-in-law, Stephanie and Kirk Sutphin; grandchildren, Seth Gillespie and wife Kristie, Alex Gillespie, Andrianna Starnes, and Thomas Starnes; great granddaughter, Kennedy; brother and sister-in-law, Steve and Neta Vance; nephew, Joel Vance; and many other relatives and friends.

Sharron graduated from Ketron High School in Kingsport in 1960 and attended Radford University. 

She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and recently, a great grandmother. Her family was the greatest joy of her life as she spent countless enjoyable hours observing her children and grandchildren participate in little league and high school sports and other activities.

Sharron worked for the athletic department at Virginia Tech and also worked at Radford University. She enjoyed traveling and was fortunate to have the opportunity to visit many countries around the world. She was an excellent cook and thoroughly enjoyed having the family and friends together for a great meal. She also enjoyed decorating the house, especially the dining room table for special occasions. She was very supportive of her husband and grandson’s political activities. She was a long-time member of Central Methodist Church.

She was loved and will be missed. 

The family received friends on Tuesday, March 21, 2023, at Central United Methodist Church in Radford. Funeral services followed visitation with Rev. Don Smith and Pastor Brian Cochram officiating. Interment was private.

The Starnes family is in the care of Mullins Funeral Home and Crematory in Radford.
