A local swimmer has been named to the National Club Swimming Association’s London All-Star team.

Trent Hollandsworth of Christiansburg, who recently announced verbal commitment to continue his athletic and academic careers at the University of California-San Diego, swims for the local H2okie squad and Radford High School.

Hollandsworth (Class of 2025) is a multi-time VHSL State Champion and has thrived in the 100m breaststroke, erasing his own state record in the Class1/2 event. He clocked a 55.91, defending his state title in the process. He also won the 200 IM (1:55.94), extending his win streak to three in the event.

The National Club Swimming Association (NCSA) London All-Star Team has earned the honor of representing the United States at the AP Race London International, taking place May 24–26 at the iconic London Aquatics Centre. Now in its third year, the AP Race London International will host elite swimmers from across the globe — including Olympic champions and rising stars — and will award £21,500 in total prize money. The event promises to deliver thrilling races in one of the world’s most renowned aquatic venues. After months of dedication and preparation, 52 individual athletes from across the U.S. qualified for this prestigious All-Star Team. Known for its electric atmosphere and unique “Super Finals.”

RU Soccer Camp

Directed by Radford University Women’s Soccer Associate Head Coach Davis Fox, Highlander Soccer Camps seeks to provide players with a deeper look at what it is to be a collegiate soccer player, from the field to the classroom, from the locker room to the campus environment. The goal is that each prospective student-athlete leaves more informed about the recruiting process and Radford University as a whole.

Hokies Excel in Classroom

Virginia Tech Athletics continued to display impressive results in the NCAA’s latest Academic Progress Rate Institutional Report, which was released Tuesday afternoon by the NCAA.

Four teams, men’s cross country, women’s golf, women’s lacrosse and women’s tennis, delivered a perfect multiyear rate of 1,000. Nineteen Hokie programs posted at least a 970. A total of 12 teams had a perfect APR for the 2023-24 academic year.

“Each year, the APR provides a snapshot of how our collaborative efforts are supporting student-athlete success,” said Sarah Armstrong, Director of Student-Athlete Academic Support Services. Our SAASS team works hand-in-hand with student-athletes, coaches and campus partners to ensure student-athletes are not only staying eligible but progressing toward their degrees. It’s a point of pride to see their hard work reflected in these outcomes.”

The APR provides a real-time look at a team’s academic success by tracking the academic progress of each student-athlete during the school year. The APR accounts for eligibility, retention and graduation in the calculation and provides a measure of each team’s academic performance.
