Former Virginia Tech women’s soccer athlete Victoria “Dori” Haugen showcased her skills as an NC Courage trialist in the 7v7 The Soccer Tournament in Cary, N.C.
“I am forever grateful and blessed to have had this opportunity,” said Haugen. “I am so honored to have played with Jessica McDonald, represent NC Courage, and make history in this inaugural tournament for the women. I cannot thank NC Courage enough for this amazing opportunity.”
Haugen started in all five matches of the tournament recording 12 shots and one goal. Her tournament appearance was highlighted by a goal in the 55th minute of the match against Soccerhead FC (5-3) in the third round of group play, advancing her team to the semifinals. Haugen logged a tournament high of six shots and one goal in the match with Soccerhead.
“Scoring my goal was and will be unforgettable moment for me,” said Haugen. “I told myself I had no choice but to score so I can help my team advance to the semifinals.”

Sportsmanship award

Ryan Fishback has been named the 2024 Rafael Osuna Sportsmanship Award winner, as announced by the ITA on Thursday morning.
As the ITA’s longest-running award, the Rafael Osuna Sportsmanship Award honors the life and legacy of the person many would call the greatest collegiate tennis player of all time. This award, which honors one Division I men’s student-athlete each year, honors the player who demonstrates many of the key tenets of Osuna’s game including, but not limited to, sportsmanship, character, academic achievements and outstanding tennis accomplishments.

Fishback, a Geneva, N.Y. native, wrapped up his illustrious career with the Hokies in the spring. His senior campaign concluded with third-team All-ACC acknowledgement, posting an 8-12 record on Court 1 and sitting in the ITA singles rankings for the entirety of the year. The honor was his third all-conference nod in three seasons.
Having graduated in May with a degree in Biochemistry, Fishback intends to test his luck on the professional circuit before attending medical school.
