E&H women picked third

The Emory & Henry College Women’s Basketball Team has been picked to finish third in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference this season, ODAC officials announced Thursday. The release came as part of the league’s annual media day held on the site of the Salem Civic Center. The poll is voted on by the 12 head coaches in the league.

Eastern Mennonite University is the favorite with 112 poll points and seven first-place votes. Lynchburg College is just two points back with the remaining five top nods. Following E&H (91 pts.) is Randolph-Macon College (89 pts.), and Guilford College and Washington and Lee University in a tie for fifth (79 pts.).

Guilford and Lynchburg reached the NCAA Division III Tournament last year with the Quakers earning the league’s automatic bid and the Hornets earning an at-large selection.

E&H has now had three-straight winning seasons for the first time since a four-year span between the 1999-00 and 2002-03 campaigns. The Wasps have won double-digit conference games for the past two years and reached the ODAC Tournament Semifinals three years straight for just the fourth time in program history.

Emory & Henry will open the 2017-18 season on Friday, November 17 at 8:00 p.m. against Belhaven University in the Emory Tip Off Tournament in Atlanta, Georgia.

The Intermont Equestrian at Emory & Henry College IDA Team picked up its first win of the season Saturday at home. The Wasps won two of the four levels and saw one of their riders earn major recognition.

Bridgewater College was the team reserve champion with Lauren Powtak taking Reserve High-Point Rider of the Day honors. Virginia Tech was third while Radford University finished fourth.
