ACC wrestler of week

Virginia Tech redshirt freshman B.C. LaPrade was named the ACC Wrestler of the Week Wednesday after leading the Hokies to a pair of dual match wins over Chattanooga (28-7) and No. 17 Central Michigan (26-6).

In his first two career starts for the Hokies, LaPrade, wrestling at 157 pounds, scored a major decision over Dylan Forzani of Chattanooga then came back with a 3-1 sudden victory upset of No. 13 Colin Heffernan of Central Michigan. In all, the New Kent, Virginia native contributed seven team points to for the Hokies.

BMS wins volleyball tournament

The Blacksburg Middle School took last months 20th annual Joyce Bryant Memorial Volleyball Tournament at Pulaski County High School. Eight teams competed in the event with Blacksburg facing Auburn in the championship game.

BMS defeated Auburn 25-14, 25-12 to bring home the trophy.

Hokies fall to Missouri

No. 10 Virginia Tech dropped its first match of the season and its first ever dual at the Moss Arts Center on Saturday night as the Hokies couldn’t get past No. 4 Missouri, 22-12, in front of a sold out crowd of 1,141.

The Hokies (3-1), who picked up wins in four of the 10 bouts, are now 7-1 all-time on the stage at the Moss Arts Center. At No. 4, the Tigers were the highest ranked opponent that Tech has faced on the stage in Blacksburg.
