RU women APR award

The Radford women’s basketball team was recognized for their academic excellence, receiving Public Recognition Awards as standouts in the latest Academic Progress Report (APR), the NCAA announced Wednesday afternoon. These awards are given each year to teams with APRs in the top 10 percent of each sport, and the results are based on a four-year aggregate concluding with the 2017-18 academic year. The women’s basketball team had a perfect score of 1000 over the last four years.
The women’s basketball program joins a group of more than 1,300 programs from 321 schools for academic excellence after they scored in the top 10% of their sports in the most recent Academic Progress Rate results. Largely as a result of an increase in perfect scores, teams earning Public Recognition Awards increased to 1,328, up by 44 from the previous academic year. APRs for programs in the top 10% ranged from 987 to a perfect 1,000, and the number of teams posting perfect scores increased to 1,214, marking an increase of 26 teams from last year.

Blacksburg’s Linkous honored

The Concord University baseball team had 10 players named to the All-Mountain East Conference Teams that were released Wednesday afternoon including first team selections, senior pitcher Will Guay and sophomore infielder Anthony Stehlin.
Senior catcher Jordan Clark, junior outfielder Ryan Fralin and junior outfielder Adam Linkous from Blacksburg were voted to the All-MEC Second Team.
Although Linkous was CU’s starting center fielder, he was one of the best relief pitchers in the MEC in 2019. Linkous made a league-high 21 appearances as he tied for the league-lead in saves with six in 25 innings of work. The Blacksburg native struck out 23 batters and held opposing hitters to a .155 average. With his next save, Linkous would break the single-season record at CU for saves.
