Eula Pauline Caldwell Smith, 87, of Christiansburg, gained her wings Tuesday, June 17, 2025, after a lengthy battle with cancer.

Pauline was a kind and loving soul who was loved by many. Born in Blacksburg on March 15, 1938, to the late Eldridge Davis Caldwell and Stella May Caldwell. Pauline grew up with eight brothers and two sisters, and had many memories of her childhood that she shared freely with family and friends

Pauline met the love of her life, Fred Lewis Smith, at an early age, and they married at a young age. Together, they raised seven children. As Pauline walks through Heaven’s gate, she will be greeted by her husband of 64 years, Fred Lewis Smith, her daughter, Brenda Love, her son, Melvin Lewis Smith, her parents, brothers, sisters, and many other family and friends.

Left to treasure her memory are daughters, Arnita Stallard (Steve), Ramona Huff (Tony), Rita McCall, Geneva Basham (Jimmy); son, Daryl Smith (Joanne); daughter-in-law, Sallie Smith; sister, Dolly Quesenberry; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, family, and friends.

Funeral services were conducted Saturday, June 21, 2025 in the McCoy Funeral Home Chapel with Brandon and Ashley Welcher officiating. The family received friends before the service.

The family would like to extend their sincerest appreciation to Blue Ridge Cancer and ACG Hospice for their service and care, but most importantly for the love they gave to our mom.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to ACG Hospice or the American Cancer Center.
