For the second consecutive season, the Radford University women’s basketball team has been awarded the Big South Team Sportsmanship Award, as announced by the conference office.
“Being recognized by our fellow institutions in the conference for this award is a huge honor,” said Radford head coach Mike McGuire. “I have so much respect for each and every school in our conference, and for them to consider our program, means a lot. This is the second year in a row that we have won this award. I am so proud of our student-athletes and everyone in our program for how they carry themselves during competition and on a daily basis. We believe we have great people who respect the opportunities that Radford University provides for us. I am really proud of everyone.”
The Big South Conference honors one team in each of its championship sports with this accolade. At the conclusion of each championship season, student-athletes on each team rank the top three teams in the conference for the award in that particular sport. The team with the most points in the voting receives the honor.
The Highlanders received the honor for the first time in program history last season and displayed that same characteristic during the 2019-20 season.
The Highlanders finished the season with a 17-12 overall mark, 15-5 in conference play. Radford’s big-time win on Senior Day secured them the two-seed heading into the conference tournament. The senior trio of Khiana Johnson, Sydney Nunley and Jen Falconer headlined the post-season conference awards for the Highlanders.
