Roope, James Wright

James Wright Roope, 84, of Christiansburg, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, Sept. 12, 2017.


He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Emily Roope; sisters, Marie Moran and Edna Roope; and twin girls, Cynthia and Sharon Roope. Jim is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Shelby Roope; daughters, Kimberly (Steve) Brumfield and Jennie Stewart; son, John (Sherry) Roope; grandchildren, Evan Roope, Tabatha (Baruch) Beach, Joshua (Leslie) Brumfield and Kelly Myers; great-grandchildren, Braylen Brumfield, Levi, Elijah, Lilly, Malachi, and Violet Beach; sister, Louise Quesenberry; niece, Jamie (Wendell) Bond; nephew, Jay (Kelly) Moran; special friend Kimberly Tribble and the staff of the Christiansburg Starbucks; as well as other extended family and friends.

Jim was a one in a million husband, dad, great-grandpa and pawpaw who never met a stranger. He was loved by all who were blessed to know him. The family received friends Thursday at Horne Funeral Home.

The funeral service was held Friday in the Horne Funeral Home Chapel. Interment followed in Sunset Cemetery. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.hornefuneralservice.com.
